North Devon boasts one of the most fantastic coastlines in the country. From the rugged, dramatic coastal walks around Hartland to the wide open golden beaches of Saunton and Woolacombe, there is plenty of variety to suit all ages and abilities.
The beaches of North Devon are very popular with surfers due to their big waves and warm waters so there are plenty of surf schools and hire shops if you are looking for some excitement. There are also plenty of mountain biking routes through the hills and woods all over North Devon. There is also a choice of other exciting activities such as archery, quad biking, off-roading and rock climbing on the sea cliffs.
If you are looking for a more laid back time, then you would enjoy a relaxing bike ride along the Tarka Trail, a old disused railway line that travels though the heart of Tarka the Otter country. There are plenty of cycle hire shops on route and a choice of cafes, pubs and tea shops if you want to stop off for a cream tea for refreshment.
If you enjoy walking, North Devon has a wide choice of walks from dramatic coastal paths to challenging walks through Exmoor National Park and gentle walks along the network of footpahths that weave their way through the farmland all across the county. The village of Harracott is surrounded by beautiful countryside and farmland and the nearby villages offer a welath of historic buildings, craft shops, pubs and restaurants where you can enjoy locally produced food and beers. For golf players, there are golf courses at Northam, Saunton, Crediton and Ilfracombe.
The villages of Clovelly and Lynton are worth a visit if you enjoy stepping back in time and Instow and Ilfracombe are traditional fishing towns offering locally caught fish and chips.
Children are well catered for too. If you don't want a day on the beach then there are plenty of activity parks such as 'The Big Sheep' and the 'Milky way' in the south of the region and 'Once upon a time', 'Watermouth Castle' and the Combe Martin 'Dinosaur and Wildlife Park' in the North of the region. There is also a cinema, swimming pool, bowling alley, Go-Karts and a variety of 'Fun-Zones' in nearby Barnstaple.
Both Barnstaple and Bideford can offer a choice of pubs and night clubs as well as a wide choice of shopping facilities. Atlantic village is an outlet shopping village just outside of Bideford where there are plenty of factory outlet bargains to be had if you enjoy shopping.
